Agreement
on Trade-Related Intellectual Property Rights

The
implementation period of the TRIPs Agreement for developing countries
ends in the year 2000.
Activities
will continue to assist Members to understand the rights and obligations
of the TRIPs Agreement. The aim is to help Members assess the amendments
that may be needed to their national legislation, the possible adaptations
in institutions and other requirements for which they would need to
plan. The purpose would also be to assist Members to participate fully
in the operation of the TRIPs Council to meet their procedural obligations
under the Agreement, and the other mechanisms of the WTO. Importance
would continue to be attached to ensuring complementarity and cooperation
with other intergovernmental organizations, in particular WIPO. The
main modes of supply are information and advice given to Members in
Geneva, seminars and workshops for developing countries and, to a
lesser extent, NGO conferences.
